<p><b>Ny side</b></p><div>'''Ole Andreas Øverland''' (født 17. mars 1855 i Trondhjem, død 20. juni 1911 i Kristiania) var en norsk historiker, skribent og statsstipendiat; kjent for å ha skrevet to utgaver av Illustreret Norges historie.<br />
<br />
Øverland vokste opp i et borgerhjem, og tok artium i 1873. Han arbeidet deretter noen år som lærer i hjembyen før han i 1878 flyttet til Christiania og begynte å studere. Han avla aldri noen eksamen, dels pga. helsen, og dels fordi han allerede hadde begynt sitt forfatterskap. 1879-1885 arbeidet han i Riksarkivet. Fra 1885 skrev han for Folkebladet en serie hefter som ble til første utgave av Illustreret Norges historie; den utkom i 5 bind 1885-1895. I perioden 1887-1898 skrev han samtidig på en 12 binds folkeutgave av det samme verket; i perioder med gasje fra Stortinget. Da verket var ferdig utgitt ble han utnevnt til statsstipendiat fra 1898.<br />
<br />
Øverland skrev også en rekke andre studier, biografier, jubileumsberetninger, anmeldelser, bidrag til leksikon, og var en flittig og populær foredragsholder. Han skrev om Vinland, korstog, thranitterne, kong Karl Johan, Armfeldt, bygdemagasiner og Jotunheimen. Han karakteriseres av Terje Bratberg som «en av de mest produktive historikere Norge har fostret, og produksjonen overvelder ved sitt volum, men også kvalitetsmessig holder det mål».<br />
<br />
Fra 1885 til 1891 ga han ut Illustreret Norgeshistorie i 5 bind hvorav det side består av 3 delbind.<br />
