But the wilderness was their land, and the wilderness has no history.« Lindholm’s work is folk poetry and consists of a series of independent legends, which together form a great Sámi epic, similar to the Finnish national epic, ''the Kalevala''. HEIMSKRINGLA primarily consists of Eddic texts, sagas, and skaldic poetry, as well as background material and sources on Sami, Finnish, and Greenlandic culture.

HEIMSKRINGLA is based on the belief that these texts – as part of our shared cultural heritage – should be freely accessible to everyone.

These weeks and months see intensive work on digitizing P. A. Munch’s monumental Det norske Folks Historie (The History of the Norwegian People), the first comprehensive account of Norway’s history from antiquity to the Middle Ages, written from a national and source-critical perspective. In seven volumes, Munch portrays Norway’s ethnic and cultural origins, the kings of the saga age, and the country’s development toward the union period. The work combines philological precision with romantic nationalism and became foundational for Norwegian historiography. Munch’s interpretation of the Nordic past and his view of the Norwegian people as a distinct historical entity profoundly influenced both contemporary and later historians.

The Life and Deeds of Ansgar – Vita Ansgarii – is the dramatic account of Ansgar, the Apostle of the North, written by his friend Rimbert shortly after Ansgar’s death in 865. It tells of the first hesitant steps of the mission in Denmark and Sweden – of miracles, trials, and encounters with chieftains and Vikings. Yet the work also offers a rare glimpse into the pagan religion against which Christianity had to contend. Thus, Vita Ansgarii is not merely a saint’s tale but one of the most important sources for the cultural encounter between Christianity and paganism in the North.
