HEIMSKRINGLA HEIMSKRINGLA is the largest collection of Old Norse and Nordic source texts on the internet – currently some 7900 titles. HEIMSKRINGLA primarily consists of eddic texts, sagas, and scaldic poetry, secondarily of background material and sources related to Sami, Finnish, and Greenlandic culture. HEIMSKRINGLA is based on the belief that these texts – as part of our common cultural heritage – should be freely accessible to everyone.		SHOP
WE PRESENT: digitalized Grønlandsk religion og mytologi New Feature Page Greenlandic religion and mythology is part of Inuit religion and mythology, which is a common term for the religious beliefs of Arctic peoples. The Inuit have had a rich storytelling tradition of myths and legends. These were told and retold through generations, and many of them go far back in time. In the 19th and 20th centuries, many myths and legends were collected and written down by, among others, Hinrich Rink, Gustav Holm, William Thalbitzer, and Knud Rasmussen. Prominent features of Inuit religion include: animism (the belief that everything in nature is imbued with a soul), shamanism (the belief in shamans with special abilities), the use of magic (e.g., amulets and incantations), rituals (e.g., in connection with hunting), and the importance of taboo rules.	WE PRESENT: on print Samernes gamle religion By Carsten Lyngdrup Madsen, 2024 Samernes gamle religion provides, in nine thematic chapters, a broad insight into the various aspects of the Sami people's pre-Christian religion, as described in the oldest sources and interpreted by modern research. – The Sami’s way of life and thinking were deeply influenced by nature. Their religion was animistic. Not only plants and animals were considered living beings, but mountains, lakes, rocks, and other elements of nature were also inhabited by spirits and natural powers. Nature was sacred. The Sami had no need for temples or shrines; they found their holy places and cult sites in nature. They did not have priests but relied on a shaman, who had special abilities to establish contact between humans, gods, nature spirits, and ancestors. Book presentation here. Order the book here:
